Memory of Incompleteness, Healing, and Comfort
Somebody told me that they were photos that he wanted to leave by the bed and to go asleep.
I have never seen what Hyung kyung Choi captured through photos and did not assign any significance to them as artworks.
They might have been like familiar voices that were unexpectedly heard from the FM radio in an afternoon, but you never knew whose voices they were.
They are documents, but not exactly formal and he captures moments as freely as possible based on his own rules.
We begin to fill up our drawer of
imagination freely since the moment of
pressing the shutter.
Ah, love which was not achieved,
Ah, knot whose fate was not tied,
We, including you, come to imagine the
past which was not as desperate as seen
through Choi’s photos.
We keep filling up the empty space
of memory which felt so sad and
melancholic,
Sadness turns into delight.
Delight turns into bliss.
Bliss turns into another love.
We, including you, get comfort for the
unborn fruits of memory.
And we get healed continually and
constantly within the suffused colors of
Choi’s photos.
