Regular-sized volume format in oblong shape. Salmon pink cloth boards with titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Martin Parr. The brief text by Parr is reproduced in his own handwriting; it is missing in the subsequent edition. Printed on thick uncoated stock paper in the United Kingdom to the very highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents the photographer's witty yet touching "take" on a time-honored and beloved genre, the flower still life. Among recent examples, Irving Penn's closeups of American national flower-symbols and Robert Mapplethorpe's erotically charged series come to mind. Only Martin Parr could have introduced to this still-life tradition his own perceptive commentary on class, taste, fears, and social aspirations, and make the collection delightful and biting at the same time. "Over the years, I've built up a sequence of flower photos; it's one of those subjects that all photographers are tempted to try during their careers" (Martin Parr). Parr's aesthetics and brilliant use of color are, by now, one of the most influential in contemporary photography. His impressive body of work continually surprises, pushing the envelope ever so brilliantly. Parr is that rare bird: A great photographer who is also a great photography scholar, and his contribution must be seen in its fullness. Martin Parr did not include any of his own books in "The Photobook". That was obviously the right and honorable thing to do, but it poses a problem for photography book collectors because it is not possible to understand the art and photography of our time without taking stock of Martin Parr's work and achievement. A "must-have" title for Martin Parr collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Edition, indicated as such on the Back Limitation Page, and is very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen by Martin Parr. This is an Import title, was not commercially distributed, is now very difficult to find, and highly collectible. This is one of very few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and is in fine condition: 50 color plates. The most influential and most important living British photographer.

Collection of flower photographs. One of Martin Parr's single most beautiful books. Limited Edition of 2500 numbered and signed copies. Precedes, is superior to, and should not be confused with the subsequent Agnes B. Gallery Edition. None of the copies was sold to the public, which is the reason it was reissued in 2000. There is no ISBN. The edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Martin Parr and Browns.
