Daido Moriyama is well known within his native Japan for his grainy, contrasty, black-and-white photos of Japanese street scenes, often shot off-kilter, out of focus and randomly cropped. His color work maintains a sense of discomfort and alienation, but with a more precise feel. This book displays photos from a 1974 exhibition of Moriyama's work at the Ginza Nikon Salon in Tokyo. The subject matter is from northern Honshu, a more rural setting than the stereotypical city street scenes associated with the great photographer, and the images are displayed as diptychs.
